My name is Thelma Fischer
and I’m a Registered Nurse with over 21 years of hands-on experience in the German healthcare system. For the past 15 years, I’ve specialized in cardiovascular nursing, with deep expertise in heart catheter laboratory care. In 2025, I completed my specialized training as a Heart Failure Nurse through the DGK (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kardiologie – German Association of Cardiologists), which has further equipped me to support patients and families navigating cardiovascular disease.
But my background is about more than qualifications. I’m an African living and working in Germany, which means I’ve walked in your shoes. I understand what it feels like to navigate an unfamiliar healthcare system, to bridge language gaps, and to worry about your health while trying to adapt to a new culture. That lived experience shapes everything I do.
Heart Health// Hypertension// Diaspora Wellness// Preventive Care //Africans in Germany
Growing up, health was not something we talked about openly. We were strong. We pushed through. We prayed. And we lost people. Sometimes suddenly, sometimes after years of silent suffering, to conditions that had names, had treatments, and could have been caught. “Heart failure. Stroke. Hypertension. Sudden cardiac death. These are not things that only happen to other people. They are happening in our community, also the African community in Germany, right now, and most of it is preventable.”
I am not a doctor. I am a member of this community who has studied these issues, who cares deeply about our collective health, and who believes that education delivered in a culturally honest and respectful way can save lives. This page is my commitment to that belief.
